From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

Why would I choose this as my site's name?  I just like the term.  Also, it reminds me of that New Yorker cartoon, the one with the punchline "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog."

I first started making sites in the summer of 1996, because I couldn't go to camp, and it beat watching TV all day.  I kept with it because it was fun, and Webmonkey was entertaining to read.  In these early days I toyed with enormous image maps, background music, and even, dear God, blinking text.  Yes, I'm ashamed.  I used to keep my collections of quotes and lyrics on my site, but when I went to college, I stopped maintaining them, and eventually removed them entirely.

Near the beginning of sophomore year, I had a strange and detailed dream, which for some reason I wanted to tell everyone about.  But I didn't want to have to tell everyone individually.  So I wiped my site out, and just posted the dream there.  The next day, I posted something else; it snowballed into a blog, though I hate that term.  I've always been proud of only using blog management systems of my own creation, but it isn't really that big of a deal, considering how little effort went into writing said systems.

Nowadays I mostly make sites out of boredom, but generally these don't get seen by many people, since I only post them when I get sick enough of my old one to overcome my lethargy.

This site is hosted by Advanced Network Hosting.  Previous hosts were WPI [my college webspace] and Geocities [way back in the day].

This particular incarnation was created in late October, 2004.  Its version number is... more than ten, but I'm not exactly sure, because I don't have the really old copies of my site to count.
